Born in Frankfurt.  Studied Law in Leipzig and   Strazburg, and became interested with the occult.  Advisor to Duke of Saxe-Weimar, friend of Friedrich Schiller – who is attributed with encouraging Goethe’s work on “Faust”.  Goethe’s work is much studied and quoted.

Works include:  Faust, Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship, Prometheus, The Sorrow of Young Werther, Goetz von Gerlichingen, Roman Elegies, Trilogy of Passion.
